We’re off with our first event of the year being a massive success with 23 teams competing in our boy’s and girl’s year 5/6 table tennis competitions.
The tournament is split over 2 nights with each gender playing on different nights. Teams are made up of 4 players and play against players of other equal ability over the tournament.
The boy’s competition on Wednesday 25th September started the North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership events calendar off with a swing.
Schools involved; Thringstone, All Saints, Belvoirdale, Griffydam, Whitwick St John, New Swannington, Hugglescote and Broom Leys.
We saw some excellent table tennis played at Newbridge High School, with a number of games going into extra play at the end of the games.
Over the course of the afternoon 144 pool games were played before the top 2 teams from each pool and the 2 highest placed 3rd places overall went through to the quarter final.
The quarterfinal line up was All Saints vs New Swannington B, Whitwick St John A vs Hugglescote, Belvoirdale vs New Swannington A, Thringstone A vs Griffydam.
After some extremely competitive table tennis which saw All Saints beat New Swannington B 8-1 and Belvoirdale beat New Swannington A 8-1, Griffydam beat Thringstone A 5-3 and Hugglescote and Whitwick St John drew their game 4-4 resulting in the game going down to points difference which meant that Hugglescote won 72-69.
The semi-finals stepped up another level with Hugglescote beating All saints 5-3 and Belvoirdale beating Griffydam 6-2.
The final saw Hugglescote lose to Belvoirdale 6-2.
Belvoirdale boys will now progress and represent North West Leicestershire at the Level 3 School Games, Super Series at Knighton Park Table Tennis Club on the 20th November 2019.
Spirit of the Games were awarded to Whitwick St John for their teams, passion, respect, honesty and determination throughout all the events.
The Girls competition on Thursday 26th September was even more competitive than the boys the night before.
Schools involved; Thringstone, Willesley, Belvoirdale, Whitwick St John, New Swannington, Hugglescote, Broom Leys and All Saints.

After some extremely competitive table tennis which saw Hugglescote beat Willesley B 6-2, New Swannington beat Thringstone B 6-2, All Saints beat Whitwick St John 6-2 and Belvoirdale winning on points difference against Thringstone A 70-65.
The semi-finals stepped up another level with All Saints beating New Swannington 6-2 and Hugglescote winning on points against Belvoirdale 70-64.
The final was one of the closest the NWLSSP have had in a few years. With Hugglescote beating All Saints on point 72-66
Hugglescote Girls will now progress and represent North West Leicestershire at the Level 3 School Games, Super Series at Knighton Park Table Tennis Club on the 20th November 2019.
