Coalville Gymnastics Club played host to 3 fantastic afternoons of gymnastics as the Key Steps 1, 2 & 3 competitions finished a busy half-term of events.
For this event each school can submit teams as well as individuals. The team with the highest score on each night will progress to the level 3 county competition.
In each competition, teams rotated around 6 stations including a warm-up, practice areas and then judging areas for floor and bench/vault. For the judged performances, children had to learn set routines and skills and perform them with maximum precision, style and technique. Scores were awarded for each individual child (with a maximum score of 20.0) which were then used to calculate overall team scores (with a maximum score of 60.0) as well as the individual winners.
Overall almost 300 children took part across the week as 73 teams participated from 19 schools.
On Tuesday, 23 of those teams battled it out in the Key Steps 3 competition for years 5 and 6. Hugglescote were the outstanding performers of the day with a score of 56.40 with Woodstone also performing well to take second spot with a score of 53.9. Below that the top 10 was extremely close with only 2.10 points separating places 3-10 but it was Willesley A who claimed third place with a score of 53.30, ahead of Worthington by just 0.10.
In the individual competition
Hugglescote had 3 podium finishes. Whitwick St John, Woodstone and Worthington had 1 podium finish
First place scored 19.2
Second place scored 18.6
Third place scored 18.5
For outstanding respect, teamwork and determination Belvoirdale were awards Spirit of the Games Award.
On Wednesday night we saw 34 teams compete for the year 3 and 4 Key Steps 2 competition with Hugglescote once again showing their gymnastics strength, taking top spot with 57.9. Willesley A finished as the runners-up (57.7) ahead of Whitwick St John A (55.8).
In the individual competition
Hugglescote had 2 podium finishes. Whitwick St John, Albert Village and Willesley had 1 podium finish
First place scored 19.6
Second place scored 19.4
Third place scored 19.2
For outstanding, self-belief, teamwork, passion and respect Ashby C of E were awards Spirit of the Games Award.
In the Key Steps 1 competition on Thursday, 16 teams competed for the last space at the level 3 competition. Spoiling Hugglescote’s clear sweep today was Griffydam who won the competition with a score of 55.3. Hugglescote managed a strong second place with 54.9. Willesley finished as the runner-up for the third time this week with a score of 53.9.
In the individual competition
Griffydam had 2 podium finishes. Hugglescote had 1 podium finish.
First place scored 19.1
Second place scored 19
Third place scored 18.6
For outstanding respect, teamwork and passion Griffydam were awards Spirit of the Games Award.
