Last term finished with some of our biggest and most well-attended events of the year – the NWLSSP Primary Gymnastics Competitions. These competitions took place over three separate days and were split into Key Steps 1 (Year 1/2), Key Steps 2 (Year 3/4) and Key Steps 3 (Year 5/6.) Each child competes as an individual and as part of their school team, with the winning teams of each age group going through to represent North West Leicestershire at the Level 3 County Finals in March.
We are very lucky to be able to hold these events at Coalville Gymnastics Club which allows the children to have a fantastic experience. The gymnasts have the opportunity to practise their routines in the gym before competing in both Floor and Bench sections.
Over the three days we had 270 gymnasts who took part from 72 different teams – an amazing number of children!!
In the Key Steps 1 competition our individual top 3 gymnasts came from Albert Village (3rd), New Swannington (2nd) and Whitwick St Johns (1st) – well done!! The winning team from Whitwick St Johns will go through to represent North West Leicestershire at the Level 3 County Finals!!
The Key Steps 2 competition was our biggest with over 100 children taking part and 29 teams!! The individual top 3 were from Ashby C of E (1st and 2nd) and Whitwick St Johns (3rd) and the winning team was Ashby C of E who will also go through to the Level 3 finals in March.
Whitwick St Johns were back with a vengeance and claimed victory once again at the Key Steps 3 competition beating Albert Village by just 1 point! Individual winners were from Whitwick St Johns (1st), Albert Village (2nd) and Belvoirdale (3rd.)

A big thank you must go to Coalville Gymnastics Club for judging the events and allowing us to use their fantastic venue, this ensured that the events were once again a great success. The children “had a great time – it was amazing!” and teachers commented saying “we always love attending this competition.”
