Girls and Boys Year 5/6 Table Tennis
This week we hosted our Year 5/6 table tennis competitions at Newbridge School.
Starting off with the girl’s tournament we had a total of 9 teams take part in the competition. For some it was their first time playing table tennis, but it was clear to see the enjoyment on their faces and there were some great table tennis skills on show throughout the tournament. From the 9 teams, 4 progressed through to the semifinals. An all Broom Leys clash in one semi final and Whitwick St John A vs All Saints A in the other semifinal. Broom Leys A came through their semi final as victors and set up a final with Whitwick St John A after their semi final victory. There was some fantastic table tennis in an extremely tight final. After all games had been played the teams were tied on victories and therefore, we had to go to points difference. Well done to Whitwick who narrowly won by the small margin of 3 points, but full credit to Broom Leys for making it such a close final.
Moving on to the boy’s tournament where we had a brilliant 12 entries. Again, there was some fantastic table tennis on display with some very competitive matches and exciting rallies. The top team from each group progressed through to the semi final stages, leaving one spot for the best runner up. Again, this came down to the wire with Belvoirdale and Thringstone B being level on wins and also points difference leaving us with the only option of a playoff match to decide who progressed through. Thringstone B put up a great fight, but Belvoirdale narrowly squeezed through in to the semifinals. This set up our semi finals of All Saints A vs Belvoirdale and Whitwick St John A vs All Saints B. All Saints A and Whitwick St John A progressed through their semi finals to set up what was to be a very competitive final. Both teams showcased their best table tennis skills with some intense rallies and close fought games. Whitwick St John narrowly edged past All Saints to win the final 5-3. Congratulations to them.
We would like to say a big thank you to our young Sports Leaders from Newbridge School who did a fantastic job in umpiring all of the matches and a thank you to Principal Financial Services for sponsoring our leadership academy. Lastly a thank you to Newbridge School for allowing us to use their venue to be able to host the tournaments there.
