King Edward VII Science & Sports College played host to two fantastic swimming galas and our first ever swimming festival over the last two weeks.
The festival is aimed at schools who do not have enough children to fill a full team but would like the gala experience without the pressure of competition against highly competitive teams.
Our first festival was a great success with all schools bringing pupils who were happy to compete against other schools and not worry about time penalties or disqualifications. Running a festival as well as the galas resulted in less time penalties or disqualifications compared to previous years.
Congratulations to Ashby Hilltop, All Saints, Newton Burgoland, St Hardulphs, New Swannington and Warren Hills for taking part in our first Swimming Festival.
Children from 16 primary schools competed to be awarded the Year 5/6 Swimming Champions for North West Leicestershire.
Our swimming galas promote children to show their passion, determination, self-belief and respect.
How do our swimming galas work?
For each event, schools receive points based on where they ranked compared to other schools across all galas.
The first gala had 3 very competitive heats,
Heat 1 saw the first three schools go head to head, with Willesley, Packington and Albert Village swimming fast and hard resulting in them all finishing in the top 3.
Heat 2 saw Thringstone, Sir John Moore and Ashby C of E go against each other with Thringstone missing out of at the overall top 3 position by just 1 point.
Heat 3 saw Woodcote, Hugglescote and Measham C of E swim against each other with a hard push to try and beat each other.
The second gala saw some highly competitive heats
Heat 1 saw Broom Leys, Woodstone, Viscount Beaumounts and Snarestone go head to head in all the races with a tight few races.
Heat 2 saw Belvoirdale, Heather and Whitwick St John swam with everything they had.

Hugglescote and Snarestone were picked by the other schools to receive the Spirit of the Games award for their passion, respect and self-belief.
This event would not be possible without King Edward VII Science & Sports College who hosted the event and provided leaders who assisted with the timings for all races.
