King Edward VII Science & Sports College played host to 4 fantastic swimming gala over the last 2 weeks. We had children from 19 schools compete to be awarded the Year 5/6 Swimming Champion for North West Leicestershire.
Our swimming galas promote children to show their passion, determination and respect. With each swimmer having to compete individually against 19 schools who might not have even set a time yet they have to have the desire to perform at their best. While also respecting everyone swimming might be at different levels.
How does our swimming gala work?
For each event, schools receive points based on where they ranked compared to other schools across all 4 galas.
Ashby C of E stormed ahead in the first gala (ending up 5 overall on 288 points). The second gala saw a very close competition between Packington, Woodstone and Snarestone. With Packington winning that gala but coming joint 3rd overall with Woodstone (291 points) and Snarestone finishing 7th overall (252 points).
Albert Village made waves in the third gala by scoring 296 points bringing them into 2nd place overall, a record high for them. However the 4th gala delivered out overall winners, Ashby Willesley powered through during the final gala to deliver a score of 307 point to be crowd winners.

Sir John Moore were award the Spirit of the Games for their Passion, Respect and Self-belief throughout their event.
This event would not be possible without King Edward VII Science & Sports College who hosed the event and Castle Rock High School for providing leaders who assisted with the timings for all races.
A special mention to Helen from Swim England East Midlands for providing support during the first 2 galas.
