We’re off with our first event of the year being a massive success with 23 teams competing in our boy’s and girl’s year 5/6 table tennis competitions.
The boy’s competition on Wednesday 26th September started the North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership events calendar off flying. With 12 teams from Ashby Willesley, Whitwick St John, Hugglescote, New Swannington, Snarestone, Broom Leys, Belvoirdale, Griffydam and Thringstone.
We saw some excellent table tennis played at Newbridge High School. With a number of games going into extra play at the end of the games.
Over the course of the afternoon 144 pool games were played before the top 2 teams from each pool and the 2 highest placed 3rd places overall went through to the quarter final.
The quarterfinal line up was Whitwick St John A vs Hugglescote B, Griffydam vs Willesley B, Snarestone vs Hugglescote A and Willesley A vs Thringstone.
After some extremely competitive table tennis which saw Willesley B beat Griffydam on points difference 72-69. Whitwick St John beat Hugglescote B 21-11, Snarestone beat Hugglescote A 19-13 and Willesley A beat Thringstone 22 – 10. Seeing Whitwick St John A, Willesley B, Snarestone and Willesley A progressed to the Semi Final.
The semi-finals stepped up another level seeing Whitwick St John A beat Willesley B 20-12 and Snarestone beat Willesley A 22-10.
The finals saw Whitwick St John A narrowly lose to Snarestone 14 – 18.
The girl’s competition on Thursday 27th September saw 11 teams from Ashby Willesley, Whitwick St John, Hugglescote, New Swannington, Broom Leys, Belvoirdale, Griffydam and Thringstone.

The finals saw Hugglescote beat Willesley 18-16 to win the girl’s competition.
Snarestone (boy’s) and Hugglescote (girl’s) will now progress and represent North West Leicestershire at the Level 3 School Games, Super Series at Knigton Park Table Tennis Club on the 21st November 2018.
Sprit of the Games were awarded to Hugglescote (boys) and Broom Leys (girls) for their teams, passion, respect, honesty and determination throughout all the events. Sprit of the Games were awarded through the leaders at Newbridge who spoke very highly of both teams.
