King Edward VII Science & Sports College played host to 4 fantastic swimming galas over the last 2 weeks as children from 24 different schools competed to be crowned the North West Leicestershire Year 5/6 swimming champions.
Children all demonstrated their desire to perform to their personal best as they took part in individual and relay events as part of a team with other members of their school.
For each event, schools received points based on where they ranked compared to other schools across all 4 galas.
St Clares were the top team from the first gala, finishing in 5th place overall (283 points). In the second gala, Packington performed well to finish in 4th overall (299 points) but it was Ashby Willesley who came out on top, taking the overall lead and finishing with 338 points overall.
In the third gala, Whitwick St John came very close to taking the overall lead, eventually finishing with 335 points – just 3 points behind Willesley who held on to claim victory. Viscount Beaumont were the top team in the final gala, taking 3rd place overall with a score of 306.
Sir John Moore were awarded the Spirit of the Games award for their passion and respect throughout their event.
The events would not have been possible without King Edward VII College who hosted the event as well as providing the leaders who assisted with the timing of all the races.
