LATEST NEWS
As we get set for our first competition of 2017/18 we wanted to take a quick look back at 2016/17 and celebrate another fantastic year for PE and School Sport in NWLSSP schools. Here’s a few of the headlines:
- 7,130 attendances at Level 1, 2 and 3 School Games festivals, events and competitions.
Throughout the year we saw a whopping 7,130 attendances at NWLSSP Level 1, 2 and 3 competitions. There were over 120 competitions and events through the year ranging from the traditional school sports of rugby and tennis to the alternative and new in dodgeball and orienteering. You can find reports on the action here and galleries from some of the events here.
- 707 young leaders trained as part of the NWLSSP Leadership Academy.
The NWLSSP runs leadership training opportunities for pupils in KS2 in primary schools and KS3, 4 and 5 in secondary schools. Sports Leaders in secondary schools have the opportunity to work towards Sports Leaders Level 1 and 2 awards as well as sport specific leadership training. In return for delivering these courses the NWLSSP deploys the trained young leaders to support our competitions and events, allowing the young people to practice the skills they’ve learnt and build up vital experience as young sports leaders. In 2017/18 our Leadership Academy will be sponsored by Alexanders Estates, you can find out more about our partnership here.
- 65,910 attendances during 3,233 hours of high quality teaching / coaching delivered in curricular and extra curricular time.
Every time someone comes to one of our coaching sessions we count them as an attendance. Last year there were 65,910 attendances during the 3,233 session hours delivered either by the 3 NWLSSP PE & School Sport Multi Sport Coaches who work in a number of our primary schools as part of their buy in options (more info here) or by approved coaches from local clubs or delivery agencies. In 2017/18 badminton, bowls, golf, tennis and Zumba were just a few of the sessions delivered in NWLSSP primary and secondary schools.
- 36 Schools achieving Bronze, Silver or Gold School Games Mark, the highest total of any partnership in the county.
NWLSSP schools are regular recipients of the School Games Mark which is an award scheme that recognises a school’s commitment to developing competition across their school and provides a useful tool to help schools evaluate their PE provision and develop action plans for future engagement. In 2016/17 12 schools received Gold, 19 silver and 5 bronze level accreditation with Broom Leys Primary School now eligible to apply for Platinum as they have gained Gold accreditation for 5 successive years. More information about the School Games Mark can be found here.
2017/18 looks set to be another great year for the NWLSSP and we’re looking forward to reporting on our success throughout the year.
