Summer holidays can be a difficult time of the year, six weeks holiday can prove challenging to entertain the whole family. There are plenty of great local activities to keep the kids as well as the parents occupied. Here is a handful of activities for the summer holidays in the North West Leicestershire District:
- Leisure Centre Programme
The local leisure centres have a great range of exciting activities for your children over the school holidays. Find out what’s on the programme here: http://www.nwleics.gov.uk/pages/holidays

- Head out for a walk
With the National Forest on the doorstep, there are some beautiful walks across North West Leicestershire. Explore some of the following places such as Bardon Hill, Moira Furnace and the Jubilee Woods just to name a few: http://www.thenationalforestwalkingfestival.org.uk/
- Take a trip to Conkers
Enjoy outdoor pursuit days, hi and lo Ropes, activity trail and many more. The park run also takes place every Saturday morning from 9am. Check out what’s on here: http://visitconkers.com/thingstodo
- Have a go at FootGolf
An ideal activity for families to have a go at the new hybrid sport. Coalville Golf Centre offers 9 holes, find out more info here: http://www.thegolfcentrecoalville.co.uk/facilities/footgolf/
- Rebound Trampoline Park
The trampoline park is perfect for an active hour and really fun, Rebound offers junior jump sessions (0-12) and Rebound Rascal sessions (0-6). There is also a soft play area for children under the age of 6.
Don’t forget you can use your Club Activ8 points at certain sessions.
- Cycling around Hicks Lodge
Follow the bike trail at Hicks lodge, the site has been designed to cater for varying abilities. The centre also has a range of bikes to hire.
- Pick your own at Cattows Farm
Offering the opportunity to pick your own fruit at the farm, the summer months are the perfect time to pick a variety of fruits including strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries.
Some additional activities that don’t need to head out of the house, these include: reading a book, get baking, camp out in your back garden and plan a treasure hunt.
