Teams from all over North West Leicestershire came to our Quicksticks Hockey events that took place over the last few weeks. Having produced both winners at the Level 3 County Championships last summer, this event is always fiercely competitive and with over 300 children taking part it always proves to be one of our most popular events! The winners of both age groups will go through to play in the grand finals, which will take place at Ivanhoe College on Monday 19th June.
Ivanhoe College, the home of Ashby Hockey Club was the venue for the first of our competitions. Thanks to the brilliant leaders from Ivanhoe – who are all working towards their Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Award, we were able to host 31 teams across both Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 competitions. The level of hockey was, as always, very high so there were some very tense final matches with extra time coming into play on more than one occasion.
The second venue, King Edward VII Science and Sport College and home to Coalville Hockey Club was the perfect setting for our second set of competitions for Year 3/4 and Year 5/6. Twenty-four teams played over two days, and again the standard of teamwork and skills did not disappoint. This time our young leaders came from King Edward VII, a group who consistently give up their time to help at our competitions. They are once again leading at the next events taking place on our calendar, our Tri-Golf festivals!

It is clear that North West Leicestershire has a habit of producing talented hockey players, with Ivanhoe College also winning three out the four Key Stage 3 County Championship hockey competitions this year. The talent is continuing to develop at primary level and filtering through into our high schools – well done to all!
